It was a custom among the occupants of Vrindavan to venerate Indra, the lord of downpour. Once, when arrangements were going all out, Krishna proposed that the locals ought to rather revere the Govardhan slope. They consented and began revering the slope.

This drove Indra mad, and he let his downpour mists free over the town.

It poured felines and canines for a considerable length of time, and everyone looked for Krishna's assistance. Incapable to see his aficionados in predicament, the Lord lifted the Govardhan with his little finger.

He requested that the residents take cover under the slope and remained in that position for seven evenings. Indra understood his slip-up and apologized to Krishna.
