It was 1828 and the spot was Varanasi. Moropant Tambe and Bhagirathi Sapre were honored with a girl and what they didn't know in those days was that she was bound to stand out forever as probably the most daring lady India has ever known.

They named her 'Manikarna' and called her Manu with love. Before long, in any case, the name would become mixed up in the pages of history and their little girl would be recognized as 'Jhansi wali rani' who went to fight with her newborn child attached to her back and two blades in both her hands.
