Rudrama Devi was conceived as Rudramba to King Ganapathideva. She was the elder daughter of the King Ganapathideva(2 daughters), who was the leader of the Kakateeya Dynasty. He controlled the whole region from Warangal the capital of the Dynasty. 

Since Ganapathideva had no male child, he played out the Putrika service and officially assigned Rudrama Devi as a male child. For her male acknowledgment, she was named Rudradeva. On the counsel of the Prime Minister, Ganapathideva additionally named Rudramadevi to be his 'male beneficiary'.
