During the Samudra Manthan (beating of the expanse of milk) by the divine beings and evil spirits, numerous fortunes alongside the Amrita (a mixture of the divine beings) and the toxic substance Halahala rose from the sea. To save the creatures of the world from the toxic substance, Shiva expended it.

At the point when the toxic substance was simply going down the throat of Shiva, his associate Parvati halted it thereby firmly holding Shiva's throat, turning Shiva's neck blue. After the scene, Shiva continued to his homestead Kailash with Parvati.

In transit, he felt depleted and marginally awkward, when he arrived at a spot in the limits of Andhra, which came to be called Suruttappalli. There, He rested to unwind, keeping his head in the lap of Parvati.

The divine beings, who were worried about Shiva's prosperity amassed there and remained around him, trusting that the Lord will open his eyes. This lying stance of Shiva is uncommon and one of a kind is practically like Vishnu's leaning back stance.
