The Indraprastha city was built by Pandavas of the Mahabharata epic period. Pandavas administered from Indraprastha and Kauravas from Hastinapur (two insurance families) according to a handled segment of the Kuru realm.

In a dice game, Pandavas lost their Kingdom and were banished for a 12-year term and in the thirteenth year must stay sequestered from everything. Fanciful legend expresses that during the Pandavas' outcast (forced by their cousin Duryodhana of the Kaurava line), so as to quell Bhima's (second of the five Pandava siblings) presumption, Hanuman viewed as the sibling of Bhima (both Vayu's youngsters, showed up in the backwoods masked as a frail and old monkey.

Bhima, while looking for a fragrant blossom looked for by Draupadi in the woodland, discovered Hanuman lying with his tail impeding his direction and, unconscious of Hanuman's character, disdainfully requested that he eliminate his tail. Yet, Hanuman advised Bhima to lift the tail since being old he couldn't do it all alone.

Bhima made a decent attempt a few times yet neglected to lift it, notwithstanding taking care of the business of incredible quality. Bhima then understood that the monkey was none different from his own sibling, apologizes for his self-important conduct, and demands Hanuman to give him his actual structure.

Hanuman was then said to have extended himself and indicated Bhima the size wherein he had crossed the ocean to go to Lanka, searching for Maa Sita Ji during the Ramayana epic period. After the Pandavas won the Kurukshetra war against the Kauravas and restored themselves in Indraprastha, the Pandava faction is expressed to have assembled five sanctuaries of Hanuman and other deities.

The SECOND STORY RELATED TO THIS TEMPLE: It is accepted that Tulsidas (1532–1623), who composed Ramacharitamanas (prominently known as Tulsi Ramayan and wrote the celebrated Hanuman Chalisa psalms in commendation of Hanuman, visited this sanctuary in Delhi.

During his visit to Delhi, Tulsidas was brought by the Mughal Emperor and requested to play out a marvel, which he did with the endowments of Lord Hanuman. The Emperor was satisfied with Tulsidas and gave the Hanuman sanctuary an Islamic sickle Moon finial which decorates the sanctuary spire. It is likewise asserted that on account of the bow moon image on the tower, the sanctuary was not devastated by the Muslim rulers who attacked India at different times.
