Ganesha had stuffed himself at Kuber's home and it was hard for him to try and move. His pot-tummy made it hard for him to try and walk, so he lurched and fell on the ground. Legend has it that the moon was observing the entirety of this and he began snickering and ridiculed him.

This maddened Ganesha, who tossed a revile at the moon, saying that it would turn dark and stay undetectable. After understanding its mix-up, the moon argued for absolution after which, Ganesha said that the moon will come and go like clockwork.
